Six Degree of Freedom Trajectory Program (SIXD)

Software and Engineering Associates

Six Degree of Freedom Trajectory Program is a trajectory simulation codeto be used as an analytical tool to predict and evaluate thetranslational and angular motion of a vehicle of body during powered andfree flight. The code can be used to predict the re-entry path, includingthe yaw, pitch, and roll histories of the vehicle (complete body, capsule, and nose tip). Vehicle properties such as lift and dragcoefficients are input as a function of Mach Number and angle of attack,or internally calculated by the program.A post-processing feature of the program helps the analyst understand andevaluate the vehicle forcing functions and resulting dynamic response. The capabilities of this code include nonlinear aerodynamic coefficients, center of gravity offset, and thrust misalignments. The code alsoaccounts for center of gravity and moment of inertia changes resultingfrom expended propellant. Finally, the program allows user-definedsubroutines with which the analyst can input various forcing functions(or modify them) and can output additional response parameters.
